Do you have old family photos that are very special to you?

Let’s work together to bring those memories to life. There’s a soft spot in my heart for the process of reimagining black and white memories in full color and vibrancy. A custom piece of art is one of the most special and lasting gifts you can give to yourself or a loved one.

I want to hear your story and translate your memories into something new, bright, and beautiful. Commissioning an artwork brings you into the creative process. We will work together to create an heirloom that speaks to you.

↓ here's the story ↓

"The original photo of my grandfather was taken during the Japanese occupation of China—the Sino Japanese war took place between 1937 and 1945. My grandfather was born in 1925 so he was 12 when the war began and 20 when it ended. He was most likely 18-20 years old in this photograph.

About 6 months ago, I had a bland white wall in my bedroom and wanted to hang up the original photo, but couldn’t due to low photo resolution. Instead, I reached out to Sharona Color with obscure project guidelines to re-imagine this photo. On a side note, I had only met Sharon once at a Sofar show in 2019; I not only appreciated the profound kindness from Sharon and her friends at the concert but I remember being hit with a wave of euphoria looking at the colorful and bright art she posted on her Instagram page. That being said, I naturally wanted to give her complete creative freedom but it was critical to keep the integrity of the original photo that means so much to my family. I wanted something that would bring life and color to the dark, dreary winter days when I’d be couped up in my room in Brooklyn due to Covid. I asked Sharon to make something beautiful, and a piece that undeniably expressed my pride in my Chinese heritage.

Part of the commission process included an hour interview with Sharon in which she asked thoughtful questions and actively listened to stories about my grandfather and my family. This was an unexpectedly cathartic experience and made the end result above and beyond more meaningful and wonderful.

On a more tactical level, she guided me through understanding the different sizing and framing options. She was very transparent about the cost and the timeline of when the piece would be ready for pick up/delivery.

Thank you again Sharon! Grateful for you and your talents!

Beach Day Reimagined…

Tim and Gabi came to me with a very special photo. “It’s the only photo of Tim’s grandfather smiling” they told me. We worked together to combine this old black and white photo with inspiration from more recent trips to the same beach. The result… a bright and whimsical watercolor and collage piece that adds a sweet memory to their walls.
